Understanding how Reiki works opens up a whole new way of thinking when it comes to healing people and animals. Initially, we are taught that healing occurs when we are present with the patient and the Reiki flows through the hands to where it is needed most. But what happens when face-to-face healing is not possible? That’s where distance Reiki comes in.

Also known as distant healing, absent healing, remote healing and other terms, it is a great way to send Reiki where we cannot be with the person for whatever reason. How can this possibly work you might ask?

Reiki is a certain vibration of energy, known as spiritual energy sometimes. Energy is all around us, from our own bodies to tables, trees, stones and, well, everything really! Think of our world as a complex network where everything is connected.

In the article The Truth About Distance Reiki Healing it says “When I do a Reiki distance healing it’s like the person is in front of me, or that I’m there with them. Some healers say it should be called Absent Healing as there really is no distance and we are all connected already.”

This idea of us all being connected and thus there being no distance between us is what is practised all around the world by healers, shamans and indigenous tribal healers.

How does Distance Reiki Work?

It is often said when we send Reiki over distance we are using the ‘spiritual wifi’! The term is in reference to how wifi works itself ie. there are no cables connecting the data. Yet the information gets from one part of the world to another, sometimes virtually instantly. It is the same with radio waves.

So distance Reiki works by the practitioner tuning into the patient on an energetic level and allowing the Reiki to flow across space and time.

How effective is Distance Reiki?

From my experience, I would suggest absent healing can be just as effective as in-person sessions. Once you have practised distant Reiki for a while you learn how to pick up on the subtle energetic patterns of the patient, even from the other side of the world. Not only does this firm up the connection, but it enables you to pick up on issues just as you would if you were doing a body scan in person.

One of the great things about Reiki energy is that it flows to where it is needed most of all. Some Reiki practitioners actually prefer to work from a distance as it allows them to work without any distractions. You are literally in the moment with the patient, in that healing space, holding space for the Reiki to flow.

I do a lot of distance reiki sessions for people’s animals as they are often easier to work with. It also allows me to help animals from all over the world.

If you would like to try a session for yourself or an animal companion please contact me and I will do my best to help.
